'Responsible Growth and Future Preparation' Emphasized in Pre-Election Interviews… Proven by Voter Sentiment
In the City of Coquitlam, a major Korean-populated municipality in Metro Vancouver, incumbent city councilor Steve Kim has succeeded in winning a third consecutive term with the strong trust of the residents.
In the vote count for the 2026 BC provincial elections held on the 17th, Steve Kim secured 15,062 votes (9.26% of the vote) in the Coquitlam City Council election, which elects a total of 8 members, proudly placing third among all candidates.
This result is evaluated as an achievement born of the practical policy implementation power demonstrated during the past eight years of municipal administration and a solid multi-ethnic voter base, which resulted in an overwhelming gap of more than 5,750 votes not only over the 8th-place winning threshold (9,604 votes) but also over the 9th-place candidate (9,303 votes), the cutoff for defeat.

■ Blueprint Revealed in Pre-Election Interview: "Preparing Coquitlam's Future with Responsible Growth"
This third-term victory is the result of the firm vision and sincerity Representative Steve Kim presented to voters during the election preparation process directly translating into votes.
In a pre-election interview with this newspaper, Councilman Kim stated, "I have faithfully reflected the voices of residents in city administration amidst the rapid growth and changes Coquitlam has undergone over the past eight years," and cited "balanced decision-making and responsible urban growth" as his top priorities as he prepares to run for a third term.
In an interview at the time, Councillor Kim emphasized, "Coquitlam is one of the most dynamically growing cities in Metro Vancouver, but it must not focus solely on outward expansion," adding, "Even amidst an environment of persistent economic uncertainty, we must thoroughly lead the city administration based on fiscal soundness so that core infrastructure such as roads, public transportation, parks, and recreation can support the pace of population growth."
Furthermore, stating that "improving the quality of life that residents can directly experience is the core of the city administration," he emphasized his pledges to ▲ secure diverse housing options encompassing families, youth, and seniors, ▲ support local small business owners and revitalize the local economy, and ▲ create a safe community by strengthening public safety and disaster preparedness.
He also clearly expressed his aspirations to serve as a reliable bridge for the Korean community. "The continuous interest and trust shown by the Korean community have been the greatest strength that has allowed me to stand in this position today," he said. "As a three-term legislator, I will not only convey the voice of the Korean community to the mainstream administration with greater weight, but I will also faithfully fulfill the role of a solid stepping stone so that the next generation of Koreans can grow into confident leaders in various fields of local politics and society."
With the practical pledges he made to residents during the election preparation and his proven legislative experience bearing fruit in his 'third term' by an overwhelming margin, local residents are looking forward to the administrative actions that Councilman Steve Kim will carry out over the next four years.
