BURNABY, B.C. — August 8, 2026
On August 8, 2026, HanaTV reporter Julius Lee attended the summer open house and grand opening of MLA Paul Choi's Burnaby South-Metrotown constituency office. In attendance were members of Parliament from Burnaby to Coquitlam, the Speaker of the House, and political figures from across B.C. and the local Burnaby and Coquitlam area, all of whom came out to show their support for MLA Choi's grand opening. The event marked an important step forward for the Korean-Canadian community and underscored the growing recognition of Choi as a strong political figure within it.
Held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the new office on Rumble Street, the open house welcomed constituents, community leaders, and consular representatives, including members of the Korean consulate, who joined to celebrate the milestone alongside Choi, who serves as Parliamentary Secretary for Trade.
The event was also attended by distinguished federal, provincial, and municipal officials, including Wade Chang, Member of Parliament for Burnaby Central; The Honourable Raj Chouhan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Burnaby-New Westminster; The Honourable Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Burnaby Centre; The Honourable Janet Routledge, Member of Legislative Assembly for Burnaby North and Official Government Whip; Mayor Mike Hurley of Burnaby; Councillor Maita Santiago; Councillor Daniel Tetrault of the City of Burnaby; and The Honourable Peter Julian, former Member of Canadian Parliament.
For the Korean-Canadian community, the turnout of so many senior federal, provincial, and municipal figures was seen as a meaningful signal of Choi's standing and influence in B.C. politics. The new constituency office will serve as a local point of contact for residents seeking assistance with provincial matters, and community members expressed hope that it will also serve as a hub for continued engagement between Korean-Canadian residents and all levels of government.
HanaTV will continue to follow MLA Choi's work representing Burnaby South-Metrotown and its impact on the wider Korean-Canadian community.
